3T expand their Strada line-up with the launch of the 3T Strada Pro 1x aero design road bike.
Just six months since they started shipping the Strada TEAM, the company feels it is now time for phase 2, with the 3T Strada PRO. 3T say that their Strada Team was the first aero road bike with a 1x drivetrain and optimised for wider tyres.
While reactions were initially sceptical the Strada TEAM has taken off, with good reviews, awards and client interest. Things have gone well enough that they tripled production capacity in January.
“We believe so strongly in the Strada that we always wanted to offer it in multiple versions” explains 3T Head of Design Gerard Vroomen. “An important part of that is offering a complete bike at a more affordable price. We realise we are not Giant, Trek or Specialized, we don’t churn out frames by the millions, we’re only active in the high-end performance segment. But within that segment and without watering down the performance of our bikes, we do want to make them available to as many people as possible.”
So, enter the 3T Strada Pro. It has the same aerodynamics for the frame and fork, same stiffness and strength but with a slightly simpler and thus heavier layup (+130g). The drivetrain is SRAM Force 1, the highest level dedicated 1x drivetrain on the market. The crank is also SRAM and power-meter-ready (Quarq unit sold separately).
The wheels are 3T Discus C35 PRO, pairing great aerodynamics with “bullet-proof” construction. Other equipment on the 3T Strada Pro includes a San Marco Aspide saddle and 3T Aeronova aerodynamic dropbar.
Gerard felt the need to explain about the tyres on the 3T Strada Pro as the bike is designed for a 28mm tyre. Those wanting a comfortable ride might opt for a 30mm tyre, whereas those riding on muddy roads might opt for 25mm for greater clearance. He felt that 28mm is the sweet spot. Yet the spec shows a 25mm tyre! He indicated that this is just “the number on the label” and has little to do with the actual width, saying “the tyres fit very wide on this rim, so the 25mm tyre fits much closer to a 28mm tyre than the 28mm tyre would (which fits more like a 31mm tyre).
The 3T Strada Pro is available at UK 3T retailers for €4,990.
