Back in September, we reported on a call for inspirational cycle routes in Sussex from Horsham-based Station Garage, who are a Skoda dealer who had announced the launch of the county’s first ‘as recommended by locals’ guide to Cycle Routes in Sussex. The guide is being produced to celebrate the business’s 30th anniversary as an official Skoda dealership and Skoda’s rich history in cycling – the car manufacturer actually started out as a bike firm over 120 years ago.
After receiving numerous nominations for route suggestions from the public the company has chosen the top 20 cycle routes in Sussex and broken them down into different categories. Now they are asking the public to get involved again and vote for their favourite routes – the two with the most number of votes in each category will then make it into the guide which is set to be produced in spring 2017.
The final routes and categories are:
Mountain Bike Routes in Sussex
• Deers Leap Park (East Grinstead)
• The Bull Track (near Crowborough)
• The South Downs
• Stoughton Downhill Mountain Bike Trails
• Friston Forest Mountain Bike Trails
Family & Relaxed Bike Ride Routes

• Cuckoo Trail East Sussex
• Friston Forest
• Ashdown Forest / Forest Way

The full cycle route information can be seen online and each week (from 21st November) Station Garage will be highlighting a different category on their Facebook page – @StationGarages – ready for the public to vote for their favourite. At the end of each week, the two Cycle Routes in Sussex with the most number of votes will make it into the guide, it’s as simple as that.
James Thorpe, Dealer Principal at Station Garage in Horsham, commented: “Not many people know that Skoda started out as a bike manufacturer and in fact still makes bikes to this day. They sponsor various cycling events around the world including The Tour de France, RideLondon, The Tour Series and the Tour of Britain, to name but a few. Given the brand’s rich cycling heritage, the ever-growing popularity of the sport and the fact that we have some of the most beautiful scenic routes right on our doorstep, a Guide to Cycle Routes in Sussex seemed like the perfect item for us to create.
“Our new Guide to Cycle Routes in Sussex aims to bring together the best routes and cycle tracks in the county in an all-round guide for local cyclists from beginner to professional level. The guide will be free of charge for all cyclists to pick up from the garage or download from our website.
“With voting opening in a couple of weeks I really encourage everyone to have their say in which routes make it into the guide – we want this to be the residents’ guide to Sussex cycling, almost like a trip advisor for cyclists but something that both locals and visitors can pick up and enjoy.”
