One of my cycling heroes, Alex Dowsett, has just been announced as an Ambassador for Pedalsure. He says he is “very proud to be working alongside a great company like Pedalsure that looks after the interests of both your bike and your wellbeing, thelatter of which is something that can get overlooked!”
Health and wellbeing is a priority to Dowsett who runs the charitable foundation Little Bleeders to raise awareness of haemophilia after suffering from it himself. As well as suffering from this condition Alex has had his own fair number of crashes. Dowsett was forced to withdraw from his debut in the 2015 Tour de France after crashing in the Pyrenees. The month before the Tour, Dowsett had a crash at the British Time Trial Championships, however he took home the symbolic white cycling jersey declaring him the winner for the third year in a row.
Alex Dowsett’s formative years were spent racing on the British time trial scene, an experience that has stood him in good stead for life in the pro ranks. His Commonwealth Games time trial Ggold Medal was a high point in 2014, and he subsequently announced that he would attempt to break the UCI Hour Record at the Lee Valley VeloPark on 27th February 2015. After a training setback that saw him fracture his collarbone, Dowsett set a new Hour World Record in May 2015 at the Manchester Velodrome.
With over 20,000 cycling accidents on UK roads, it makes sense to ensure you are protected in case of an emergency. PedalSure cover you and your bike. CEO Philip Lochner had this to say, “however precious your bike is, it is not as precious as you. It’s important to be protected from accidents or loss so you can ride with peace of mind.”
Research has show that most cyclist assume they and their bikes are covered through their home or life insurance but the reality is neither of these provide adequate or any cover to address the risks associated with a serious cycling accident or necessarily cover the bike. PedalSure uniquely provides comprehensive insurance for cyclists covering both the cyclist and their bikes.
For commuters to experienced road cyclists, PedalSure’s offering provides piece of mind in the event the worst happens – this includes unrivalled personal injury cover up to £150k, public liability, theft/accidental damage and legal cover. Cover uniquely provides for emergency dental care, £250 per night in hospital, physiotherapy, up to 28 days overseas and amateur racing use. It further provides an allowance for incidental costs after an accident which can be used to take taxis to work whilst recovering or get a private second medical opinion.
