A couple of brothers decided to gee up their snowboards for evening use and added LED lighting kits, which were immediately a hit with fellow skiers and snowboarders. As a result “ActionGlow” was born.
They now have waterproof rechargeable LED lights for a range of sports, including cycling, and have just started a Kickstarter campaign to get them into series production.
A full charge will last between 5 and 10 hours depending on the kit and application. They can be submerged in up to 25 feet of water, so should survive a downpour while cycling; and they can survive skiing, canoeing and surfboarding – as well as being on a mountain bike. With 60 bright LEDs per metre they can be seen from more than half a mile away with a 180 degree viewing angle to keep you visible in the dark. The bike kit comes as 2 50cm lengths and can be cut every 5cm to tailor them to where you want them on your bike.
The low profile battery pack can be removed and brought inside for charging via USB.
With a simple click of a button you can cycle through 8 different colours to suit your mood – or select a flashing SOS pattern. The early bird deal for the bike kit is at $55 (limited to the first 500) and will later rise to $80.
Is that a price you are willing to pay for some evening ride “bling” on your bike? Why should “pimping your ride” only apply to cars?! Hurry if you want to be one of the “early birds”!
